No Ball, No Goal: Writing Football and the Right to Say “Not Enough Data”

For me, a football article is the same: it starts only with a real event, real data, a real name. This commentary is written in response to an empty analytical framework where every field returns “N/A.” There are no players, no contracts, no matches, no statistics. A responsible writer cannot fill such emptiness with fabricated facts. Drawing on lessons from the 2026 World Cup, IFAB Law 11, and the editorial standards required in Vietnamese football media, this article argues that saying “not enough data” is not weakness but professional integrity. It encourages Vietnamese sports journalism to build a culture of verification and to respect silence when evidence is missing.
