Nguyễn Tiến Minh advances to Vietnam Open 2026 Super 100 main draw by exploiting Nguyễn Hoàng Thái Sơn's singles weakness

In the qualifiers of the 2026 Vietnam Open Super 100 tournament from September 8 to 13, 2026, veteran Nguyễn Tiến Minh made a surprise by defeating Nguyễn Hoàng Thái Sơn. At 43 years old and ranked 254th, Minh exploited the singles weakness of doubles specialist Thái Sơn. Minh quoted facing an opponent 'not strong in singles' but with his strength and speed he controlled the match. This win advanced him to the main draw against Zhe Ying Wu of Taiwan. The event is regional with over 300 players from 27 countries/territories, offering limited ranking points. Other Vietnamese players faced challenges: Lê Đức Phát injured with knee and heel issues requiring pain relief, and Nguyễn Hải Đăng lost. Minh's opportunistic style based on experience compensated for physical decline. The tournament highlights Vietnam's transitional singles group with veteran presence. No major rule controversies, standard BWF compliance. Overall, it's a lower-tier event but provides experience and points for Vietnamese players.
